Holloway's wife Evelyn to whom he was married shortly before entering the service received a Navy Department telegram telling her he was killed in a truck accident on April 24. He was believed to have been in Southern France or Germany.
Served as Policeman
Before entering the service he worked about a year as a patrolman in Haddonfield. His father, Howard H Sr, is custodian of the Haddonfield Memorial High School and is a brother of former Mayor Holloway.
In a letter received by his wife on Saturday [28 Apr 1945], young Holloway said he thought the war in Europe would be over soon and he would be home this Summer. He entered the service in April 1942 and had been overseas 18 months.
Last November he received permission to go to Aberdeen, Scotland to be best man for his younger brother, Sgt Raymond, who is with the Eighth Aarmy [sic] Air Force, and who married a Scot. The brother has been in the service since 1941 and overseas two and one-half years.
Star Athlete
While attending Haddonfield High School he was as a star halfback for the football team. He was picked as all-scholastic halfback in 1935. He graduated from Camden County vocational school where he studied motor mechanics. He was born in Haddonfield."
