James (Jamie) was the son of Bob and Julia Lipscomb and the brother of Carmen, Robert, Ruth, and George Lipcomb. He was
preceded in death six months earlier by his baby sister, Nancy Katherine, whose spirit came to him and predicted his death. He was not sad, but gave away his belongings and told his parents to plant a tree to mark his grave, as they had his sister's.

He was hit by a delivery truck and killed almost instantly as he and his brother Robert pulled a wagon of papers to be delivered. The young driver did not stop, but was later identified and brought to trial.

Jamie was a loving, good natured boy, well-liked by his schoolmates. His Mother never stopped grieving for him.

He is buried at Oakland Cemetary on a hillside not far from his sister.
