A native of Wisconsin, Alpha E. Anderson had lived in Alaska and Nebraska as a child. She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska Nursing School. In 1942 she traveled to Belgium Congo (now DRC) and served as a medical missionary. It was there that she met her husband Richard B Anderson. Married in 1944 they served together until 1970 when she came home on a medical furlough.
