Memorial services will be conducted Monday at Peace Lutheran Church of Grass Valley. Burial will take place in the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst IL.
Mr. Boardman was born Nov. 1, 1916, in Elmhurst, IL, to John and Alma (Blecke) Boardman. He grew up in Elmhurst, IL, and graduated from York High School.
After graduation he went to work for the Chicago and North Western Railway as a clerk in the accounting department. He was transferred to numerous locations throughout the United States while working for the railroad.
He retired as assistant vice president of sales and services in 1982 after 47 years with the company. He moved to the Penn Valley area in 1983.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941-45 and served with the 1st Armored Division in European and North African Theaters. He participated in the invasion of North Africa and in the Anzio Beachhead in Italy. He was a staff sergeant and was a demolition expert. He received the Bronze Star while in the service.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church and the National Freight Transportation Association.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis W. Boardman of Penn Valley; daughter Barbara Campbell of Lakewood, CO; son Blake Boardman of El Toro; brother Ralph Boardman of Lansing, IL; sister Ruth Lucht of Bartlesville, OK; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements were completed by Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, Grass Valley.
