Seguin, Texas Native Leonhard F. Schmidt, long resident of New Berlin neighborhood died at the home on Tuesday, aged 61 years. He was a native of Grafenburg in Baiern, Germany; came with parents to Texas in 1844, and has resided in Guadalupe County nearly ever since. He served in the Confederate Army and had fought the Indians on the frontier.

Leonhard Schmidt was an honest, generious and honorable man. He was a widower and leaves seven children and twenty three grandchildren surviving him.

Died at New Berlin
After a lingering illness of several months Leonard F Schmidt died Nov. 20, at 9 p.m. From the first little hope of recovery was entertained but he was given every attention, the ministrations of friends, relatives and physicians being of no avail.
Deceased was born in Grafenburg, kingdom of Bayren, July 5, 1833. In 1884 his father's family emigrated to New Braunfels. Here deceased was married in 1858 to Miss Henrietta Hoeke. This union was blessed with thirteen children, seven surviving him, namely Chas., Henry, Emil, William and Louis Schmidt, Mrs. Fred Weiding and Mrs. Chas. Hofer. In 1860 he and his wife moved to New Berlin where he lived up to the present time. During the civil war he fought for the southern cause. The funeral services were held at the residence and interment took place in the family burial grounds. Friends and relatives attended the services to pay their last respects to the dead.
