The middle initial in Dean's name came about because some authority figure said he had to have a middle name - so he used the initial K (no period after the K) Dean was approximately 5'10" tall weighing 150 pounds. He had a very erect posture. He was always very slender. he had set a goal to live to be 100 years old. Dean enjoyed very good health most of his life. He prided himself on healthful living (ate sea kelp) and ate only the healthiest foods. Enjoyed reading up on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Dean walked at least 1 mile every day. Up until the age of 88. He painted the exterior of his son's 2-story house using a very tall ladder (to reach the second story of the home) with a bucket and paint brush. Dean was employed as lead electrician in charge of the electric plant in Joliet, Illinois. He was burned very badly in an electrical accident in 19____. He was assured by the man in charge of turning off the electrical circuit where he was working - that "the switch is off!" So he proceeded with his work and the switch was not off! He was hospitalized for several weeks.
Dean was frugal. Near the end of the "Great Depression," Dean purchased land on a bluff overlooking Enterprise Lake, near Elcho, Wisconsin. On this lakeside property he built his and Eva's 2,500 sq ft log cabin "EDEN." Down lakeside he built a boat house with guest quarters above. He did much of the work himself. He and his wife Eva entertained friends, many from his organization the Masonic Lodge and her Eastern Star.
