LIBERAL, MO.- Dale W. Charlton, 86, Liberal, MO., died at 8:20 P.M. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO.
He was born Aug. 4, 1914, at Mindenmines, MO., the son of John H. and Mary "Lizzy" Charlton. He attended Mindenmines schools. Mr. Charlton was a retired businessman who owned and operated the Home Oil Company in Liberal from 1952 until his retirement in 1978. He also farmed and drove a coal truck.
He served on the Liberal City Council, and had also served as mayor of Liberal.
On Jan. 14, 1946, he married Roma Richmond at Girard. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Beverly Ann Long and her husband, Ron of Liberal and sister-in-law Sherry Kaye Prettyman and her husband, Clem of Joplin, and a niece, Darlene Webber and her husband, Bobof Blue Springs, MO., both of whom were raised in the home. He was preceded in death by by infant daughters, Donna Rae and Nancy LaRue. And five brothers, Cass Charlton, John Graff Charlton, Donald Charlton, Archie J. Charlton and Ray Charlton.
Graveside services were held at the Liberal City Cemetery, Liberal, MO. with the Rev. Hollis Walker officiating. Casketbearers were Ronnie Charlton, Bob Webber, Cass Melvin Charlton, Gary Charlton, Andy Burr and Bill Walker. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home of Arma, KS.
