Also known as Petrus Johannes Jensen, John was the son of Jens Anton Jensen and Inge Maria Christiansen. He was the 3rd of 3 children (his 2 sisters had both died by 1909), and was born outside Aalborg Denmark, immigrating to the US at age 17. He married his English teacher, Alice Wrightson, in 1928. Their children are Elizabeth Hoien Hancock and John Anton Hoien Jr. John lived most of his adult life in the Fresno/Fowler area of CA. He and Alice lost their farm in the Great Depression. He worked in grape farming and fruit packing, ultimately becoming the General Manager for Guggenhime & Co.'s Fresno plant and operations. After Alice's death, he married Corrine "Connie" Beach, in 1967. They retired to Hot Springs AR, where he died (taken by pancreatic cancer).
