Born in Needham, MA. on November 24, 1918 to Hudson and Eola (Rivard) Appleby, Phyllis was predeceased by her brothers, Hudson Appleby and Elton Appleby of West Yarmouth.
Phyllis and Jim enjoyed many happy hours on their 44 ft. cruiser, the "Vega", traveling extensively around the waterways of Cape Cod and the islands, and making numerous trips south along the inland waterway to Florida. For several years, they became summer residents of Cuttyhunk, and were always welcomed as locals when they later visited on their boat.
Phyllis was an avid reader, choosing mysteries and historical novels as her favorites. She also was a challenging bridge player. Her love of animals was evident in her wonderful stories of their German Shepherd, Duke, and her generous offers to "dog-sit" for friends. Her walking companions tell stories of the dogs who regularly followed Phyllis when she would be out for a stroll.
Surviving Phyllis are her nieces, Jeanne DeSilver of Jacksonville, FL. and Robin Appleby of Dennisport, and her nephews, Roger Appleby and Eric Appleby of West Yarmouth.
A Funeral Home Service will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 13th in the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Hwy, (Route 28A) West Falmouth. Burial will follow in the North Falmouth Cemetery, Old Main Rd., North Falmouth
