Shirlee Mae Crafts Bailey, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Feb. 5, 2010, from complications due to old age at her home in Anchorage at 12:49 a.m. Her official time of death was 1:55 a.m. She was attended by her daughter, Laurie; son-in-law, Mark; granddaughter, Chelsea; caretaker, Erin; and beloved dog, Copper Penny.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 20 in Reno, Nev., at Mountain View funeral home, 425 Stoker Ave. Interment will follow.

Shirlee "Shirl" was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only child of Allen and Mable Crafts. Shirlee spent her early childhood in Utah and later moved with her family to Pony, Mont., where she would live until she married Richard "Dick" Bailey on March 31, 1942. Shirlee and Dick had six children, all the joy of Shirlee's life: Sharyne Lee, Richard "Bud" Allen, Ronald Arthur, Douglas Wayne, Michael Dean and Laurie Ann.

Shirlee raised her children in Seattle, Wash., and then Delta, Utah. She blessed her children with her love, sacrifice and tireless efforts on their behalf. She was an impeccable housekeeper, a talented cook, and a loving mother. Just as she was a devoted mother, Shirlee was an equally wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.

She always had a kind word of encouragement or love. Shirlee had a wit and a personality to light up the room, and one could never visit her kitchen without partaking of some delightful homemade treat or delicious home-cooked meal.

Eventually Shirlee moved to Anchorage to live with her daughter, Laurie and family, spending the last 20 years of her life here. Shirlee's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever be grateful for the loving way in which Laurie and her family cared for her, especially in the last years of her life.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her brothers, Golden and Van Warnick; her sister, Gloria; her sons-in-law, Mont Parker and Ray Shepley; and her grandson, Michael Bailey.

She is survived by her brothers, Dean and Michael; her children, Sharyne, Richard, Ronald, Douglas, Michael, and Laurie; her daughters-in-law, Marianne, Derry, Kathleen and Tracy; her son-in-law, Mark; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
