Pinkney Bryan Hess served as a Seaman 2nd Class in the United States Navy Reserve during World War II.

He was a son of Charles Howard Hess and Rachel Justina (Ridinger) Hess.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 24, 1944 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

He received his discharge from the Navy on November 18, 1944 at Memphis, Tennessee.

At age 20, he was employed as a cabinet maker at the Gettysburg Furniture Company. His address at the time was 65 Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg.

He was originally from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

He was married to Lulu E. Funt on November 10, 1917 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
