Richard Lonnie Petri was the son of Carl Louis "Charlie" Petri and Marion Lucille [Kinley] Petri of San Antonio, Texas. He is buried in the family plot next to his father, Carl Louis "Charlie" Petri. Richard married Robbie Raye Bush on Feb. 18, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Richard and Robbie had four children: Richard Wayne "Dickie" Petri, Carol Diane [Petri] Lewis, David Michael Petri, and Kevin Raye Petri. Richard was preceeded in death by his father, Carl Louis "Charlie" Petri, his paternal grandparents, Heinrich "Henry" Petri & Friedericke [Bock] Petri, and his maternal grandfather, Arthur Roy Kinley Sr. Richard was also preceeded in death by his brothers, Edwin Robert Petri & Ralph Charley Petri.

At the time of Richard's death, his daughter Diane was expecting his first grandchild, Jason Richard Lewis.
