Lt. Col. Roy E. Appleman, 89, a historian for the Army and National Park Service, died December 12, 1993 at his Colorado Springs home. No services are scheduled. Cremation is planned. Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Blvd is handling arrangements.

Lt. Col. Appleman was born April 10,1904 in Columbus,Ohio to Lewis Arthur and Christina (Ribble) Appleman. He was married to Irene White who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Christina Michener of Houston and Charlotte O. of San Anselmo, Calif;a son, William Minor of Davidsonville, Maryland;a brother, Earl of Malta, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Glass of Cleveland and Pearl Dunlap of McConnelsville, Ohio and three grandchildren.

Lt. Col. Appleman had lived in Colorado Springs since 1977 and was in the Army during World War II and the Koren War. His work appeared in the official Army history of various campaigns in both wars. His combat narratives in the Korean War were written after retiring in Colorado Springs.
