John Shinn rites Sept. 4 in Dill City; Was Pioneer Here
Services for John L. Shinn, 74, of Dill City were at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, in the Memorial Methodist church in Dill City and burial was in the Carnegie cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. W.W. Fitzgerald, pastor, assisted by Rev. Thornton H. Jones. Mr. Shinn died Friday, Sept. 1, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 17 days.
John L. Shinn, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Shinn, was born Dec. 14, 1875, in Russellville, Ark., and at the age of 9 years moved with his parents to Ennis, Texas. he moved to Carnegie in 1902 and lived there until 1944 when he moved to Watonga and lived there until 1949. For the past year he has made his home in Dill City.
In 1906 Mr. Shinn was united with the First Christian church at Carnegie and remained a member until his death. On July 23, 1911, he was married to Ora F. Clark and to this union eight children were born.
Survivors include the wife; three daughters, Mrs. O.R. Burglof, Barstow, Calif.; Mrs. C.H Steinman, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. R.E. O'Connell, Parkridge, Ill. and five sons, Russell and Earl, Dill City; Virgil, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Ross of Oklahoma City, and William of the U.S. Navy, San Diego. Calif.
