Crooks was a long time farmer (Sheridan Blvd. and 120th Avenue) near Broomfield in Boulder County, adjacent to his father Jesse Crooks' farm.Detailed journals that he keep early in the twentieth century shows that most of his income was derived from raising and selling wheat and barley. A constant expenditure as revealed in the journals was that for pipe tobacco-Gramps enjoyed his pipe smoking immensely. James F. Crooks suffered a stroke in 1952, which unfortunately took away his ability to verbally communicate. Husband of Bertha Graves Crooks (1884-1981).
