The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, Elizabeth Barrow Wylde Haring's great granddaughter..
Elizabeth Barrow Wylde was born on 4 October 1859 in Fryerning, Essex, England to parents, Henry Ernest Wylde and Elizabeth Barrow. The family was visiting the Disney Estate "The Hyde" when she was born. Her father was descended from Viscount Robert Tracy, Baron Baynham Throckmorton, 1st Baron Chandos John Brydges and King Edward 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Henry, her father's lineage went back to the Wylde Family of the Commandery in Worcester, England. Her mother, Elizabeth Barrow's grandfather , Johannes "John" Barrow, was the Magistrate of Wedmore, England. Carole Elizabeth Nurmi Cumming's mother, Elizabeth Barrow Haring, was named after Elizabeth Barrow. Carole's uncle, Robert Tracy Haring, was named after Viscount Robert Tracy.
Elizabeth was baptized as Elizabeth Barrow Wylde on 1 November 1859 at the Fyerning Parish Church in Essex County, England. Her parents were listed as Henry Ernest and Elizabeth Wylde. Her father was listed as a "gentleman."
Her father owned several businesses including wine, oil and imports. When she was 7 years old, the family decided to move to the United States. They traveled on the S. S. Rhine, which left London, England, and arrived on 4 November 1867 in New York City, New York.
The Wylde family was a brave family to travel in 1867 to the United States from their home in England. It was a large family when they came upon the shores of New York City. Like many, the family developed, acclimated and prospered in their new home called America. Close to New York City, this America offered a great deal of excitement and hope.
In the 1870 United States Census, Henry E. Wylde, 38, Shipping Merchant, was living with his wife, Elisabeth Wylde, 34 and seven children, Sophia F. 12; Elizabeth B. Wylde, 10; Caroline A. Wylde, 9; Cecelia Wylde, 8; Mathilda H. Wylde, 6; Charlotte F. Wylde, 4 and Ida Wylde, 3. They were residing in North Bergen in Hudson County, New Jersey. This was right across the Hudson River from New York City giving easy access for his business.
In 1871, Henry and his wife Elizabeth, along with his brood of children, moved to New City located in Rockland County, New York. The trees were hardy and green and the water and streams were beautiful. This was a perfect place to raise a family. Henry still traveled to New York City and Jersey City to run his import business via the train. He also was a commision agent and was active in mining.
As Elizabeth grew up, there was to be much to look forward to and a family to anticipate.
There was love around the corner for her when she met a tall and handsome gentleman of Dutch, French and German heritage named James Smith Haring, Jr. He was a civil engineer and surveyor like his father before. The couple married in 1884 at Elizabeth's home in New City, New York. A bright and happy future awaited them.
A lovely first daughter named Grace blessed their life. They were thrilled. Two years later, joyful news of a son came. James Smith Haring III was born on January 23, 1887. However within days, Elizabeth had become septic and died. What began as a fairytale and adventure for her in a new land ended with sorrow and tears.
Elizabeth lived but a handful of years on this earth. She died a week after giving birth to my grandfather, James Smith Haring, III. Though my grandfather was raised by a stepmother, he longed to have known the mother he lost.
As her great granddaughter, I longed to have a photo of this Elizabeth Barrow Wylde. I did not have one. I did procure a photo of her sister, Cecelia, who stepped in to raise her two children in their early days. When I look into her eyes, I do envision my great grandmother's eyes. Though I mourn for her and am saddened that she lived but a short time here on this Earth, I find myself encouraged by her and uplifted by her spirit of resilience.
With deep gratitude, I send my love Heaven bound for my dear great grandmother. May you forever rest in peace. I look forward to the day when I can sit, chat and laugh with you.
With my deep and abiding love
Your great granddaughter - Carole Elizabeth Nurmi Cummings

Brian Coaker of Essex on Friday, June 18, 2010:
Hi Carole.
I tried the Essex records this morning looked at Fryerning baptisms Elizabeth Barrow is there baptised 1st November 1859 went on to 1867 but no more Wyldes I suspect the family were on a visit and the babe arrived, Henry Ernest in the baptism records was recorded as a Gentleman, so they looked and had money and people who did not seem to have to go to work were often in the records as a gentleman.
I have been having a look at the 1861 census we seem to be missing Caroline you have her in your tree as being born 1860 I believe I found her in freebmd as Caroline Annie Wylde march quarter so she should have been in the 1861 census no death recorded she and Cecelia seem to have been registered in West Ham again this is a large registration area but the 1861 census for your family says Walthamstow which is part of the West Ham registration area they lived in the Cambridge Road trying to locate a church that was nearest this street, the whole area was a building boom town from about 1900 and there were about 6 new churches built in about 10 years to cope with the expansion of all the house being built, I will keep looking to find which church I think it will be either St Mary's or St James the greater.
Brian.
