Obituary:

Christine Castiglia, age 92, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in Rye, New York. She was born in Harrison, New York to the late Filippo and Maria De Iacova and had eight siblings. She married Thomas Castiglia on January 9, 1938. Christine was a talented seamstress and made most of the clothing for her family. Together with her husband Tom, they owned and operated a clothing store on Crotona Avenue in Harrison. For many years she worked with Tom in their machining business - Tennyson Machine. Christine will be remembered for her love of gardening, cooking, sewing and crocheting as well as her volunteer work at United Hospital. Christine was also a homemaker and fantastic cook of Italian food. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be remembered for her generous nature and as a caregiver who was always willing and able to help. She was always there for family and friends, whether it was to take care of the sick, drive others to their appointments or to bring over a great home-cooked meal. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 1970 and son Daniel in 2006 and brothers Joe and Jimmy and sisters Rose Falzarano, Caroline Polito, Pauline Vaccaro, Lucy Facarazzo and Yolanda Louden. Christine had seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Harrison was where Christine was born, raised her family and spent the first 53 years of her life until her husband Tom passed away. She always wanted to "come back to Harrison." Harrison was in her heart and mind, but it never happened. Now it will. Welcome home, Chris. Mrs. Castiglia will be reposing at the Harrison Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral will be on Monday 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brooke, NY.
