FRED DUFFUS
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, at the Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, for Fred B. Duffus, 89, of Grinnell, who died suddenly of an apparent heart condition.
The Rev. Myron Harris, pastor of the Northside Friends church, officiated at the services.
Pallbearers were Keith L. Gregory, Robert Henderson, Gerald Phipps, Marshall Pierce, Ernest W. Renaud and S.W. Inman.
Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom.
The son of William and Sarah Margaret Andes Duffus, Mr. Duffus was born Aug. 1, 1888, near Malcom.
On Jan. 12, 1916, he married Myrtle Ferneau at Montezuma. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive.
Mr. Duffus farmed for a number of years near Montezuma and Malcom until his wife's death in 1930. He continued to work on farms until 1937 when he came to Grinnell to make his home and was employed by Grinnell College in the food service department.
On Dec. 29, 1948, he married Helen Hornbeck in Grinnell, who survives at home. Survivors also include three children - Mrs. Alvin (Hazel) Foster of Brooklyn, Harold Duffus of Kellogg and Harry Duffus of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two sisters - Mrs. Ida Barnes of Malcom and Mrs. Orrie (Mae) VanFossen of Marshalltown.
Mr. Duffus was preceded in death by his first wife and one son in infancy.
