G. Joseph Lafferty, 73, retired tailor and active member of Odd Fellows, died at his home, 217 Beech Street. Death was caused by a complication of ailments. He was bedfast for the past 14 weeks.
Mr. Lafferty was a native of Pottstown. He was the son of James and Catherine (nee Spatz) Lafferty. At the age of 14 he entered the tailoring trade under his father who conducted a shop on High Street near Evans.
Later he opened his own establishment at High and Charlotte Streets and then moved to 16 North Hanover Street. He remained there 19 years until he opened a shop at this present address. He was retired for the past five years.
Mr. Lafferty manufactured the first postmen's uniforms in Pottstown and continued making them for several years.
While he never held public office, Mr. Lafferty always was interested in politics. His favorite topic of discussion was single tax as a means of lightening the burden of the taxpayer.
