Fall From Ladder Proves Fatal to Henry Rieke
Henry Rieke, well known resident of the Barrington community for many years, died last Sunday morning, May 31, about 5 o'clock at Victory Memorial Hospital, Waukegan, where he was taken following an accident last Thursday, when he fell from a ladder while painting his house on North Cook street.
His leg was broken between the knee and the hip by the fall and he suffered severely from the shock, which was the direct cause of his death.
Dr. J. A. Ross of Wauconda was called to attend him and he was taken to the hospital as soon after the accident as possible.
Mr. Rieke was born March 25, 1854, on a farm in Cuba township. He was married October 21, 1880, to Mathilda Gilly. They continued in agricultural pursuits until about two years ago, when Mr. Rieke sold the farm which he owned in Cuba township to Emil C. Wetten and moved to this village to reside. Here he worked as a carpenter until the accident occurred and resulted in his death. He is survived by his widow and six children, Frederick, Alma, Raymond, Reuben, Edith, and Henry, Jr., and one brother, Christian Rieke of Barrington township, and one sister, Mrs. Emil Schaede of Main street, as well as three grandchildren, Lola, Foster and James Rieke.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at his late home on North Cook street and were conducted by the Rev. L. Kleemann, pastor of St. Paul's church. Interment was in White cemetery.
