Born Aug. 15, 1923, in Chicago, Mrs. Speck died July 17 at her home. She was a devoted wife and mother. She belonged to the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Barrington. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, swimming, music and entertaining.

Mrs. Speck is survived by her husband, John F.; her children, Sarah M. (Douglas J. McLennan) of Seattle, Wash., Martha S. (Steven M.) Brown of San Jose, Calif., Elizabeth L. (Eric Trupin) of Seattle, Wash., and John F. Jr. of Chicago; her grandchildren, John Trupin and Katherine; a sister, Marguerite (Carl) Ziegler; 23 nieces and nephews; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Helen (nee Marshall) Jensen; two sisters, Frances Schmall and Rosemary Noftz; a niece, Rosemary Peavy; and a great-nephew, Andrew Hartwig.
