Services for Andrew (Andy) David Hartwig, 20, of Barrington, were held April 24 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Barrington. Burial was in White Cemetery.

Born Dec. 13, 1978, in Park Ridge, he died April 21 at Christ Hospital, Oak Lawn. He was a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana, studying history education. He was an honor student at the University and made the dean’s list every semester.

He graduated from Barrington High School in 1997, where he was a member of the soccer and baseball teams. He loved music and played bass guitar. He was a founding member of the Creepers Jazz Band. He was also a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and his interests included cycling, running and writing.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Jill Hartwig of Barrington; paternal grandparents, Floyd (Bill) and Evelyn of Crystal Lake; maternal grandparents, Dave and Betty Hartley of Downers Grove; his aunt, Julie (Gary) Nass of Naperville; his uncles, Rev. John (Natalie) Hartwig of Salem, Va., and Bill (Nancy) Hartwig of Woodstock; his six first cousins; many great aunts, uncles and cousins; and his dog, Spike.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Andrew Hartwig Memorial Music Scholarship Fund, attn: Christine M. Sherman, Barrington Bank & Trust Co., N.A., 201 S. Hough St., Barrington, IL 60010.
