Catherine Mae Roberston Stelzer

Catherine M. Stelzer 1933 2008 SPRINGFIELD Catherine M. "Cathy" (Robertson) Stelzer, 75, a longtime resident of Linden Towers at 310 Stafford Street in Springfield and formerly of the East Springfield section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from the Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by her loving sons and Patty Stelzer, her devoted sister-in-law and best friend. She was born in Springfield on May 13, 1933 a beloved daughter of the late George and Catherine (McNally) Robertson. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School. She attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. Cathy was employed at the former Wesson Maternity Hospital and the office of Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Edward Fisher. She was a longtime communicant of Saint Mary Church in East Springfield where she served her parish for many years as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Instructor and a member of the Ladies Sodality Guild. She was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was predeceased by her former husband, Springfield Police Chief Ernest M. Stelzer who was Called Home on October 15, 1994 and her dear sister, Shirley Schott Martin. Cathy's greatest joy and happiness were found in the lives and accomplishments of her three sons. Her quick smile and good nature will be truly missed by her family and many friends whose lives she touched with her gentle and unassuming ways. She leaves her loving sons, Paul M. Stelzer and his wife, Donna of Westfield, Reverend Mark S. Stelzer, faculty member at the College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee and Thomas "T" Stelzer and his wife, Brenda of East Springfield. Her three cherished grandsons, Ryan Stelzer, Victor Battistini and Brandon Colon. She also leaves her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday morning, September 18, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street in Springfield. Her burial will be private for her family at Calvary Cemetery on Hampden Street in Chicopee. Her family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made in her memory to the Catherine M. Stelzer Scholarship Fund for Tuition Assistance, c/o Cathedral High School, 260 Surrey Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
