Obit: Chesterton: Laura Belle Coan (Mathews) 72 of RFD 1, Chesterton, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Porter Memorial hospital after a lingering illness. She was born 24 Dec 1884 in Eugene, IN., to John Mathews and Elsie Kelch. She married Mar 15, 1900, Danville, IL., to James A. Coan. She lived in Chesterton for 31 years.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Lillie (Clarence) Weaver of Milwaukee, Mrs. Lavenia (Howard) Charlson of RFD 1, Valparaiso, IN., Mrs. Edith (Victor) Crum of RFD 1, Chesterton; a son, John S. (Hazel) Coan of RFD 1, Chesterton; 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2p.m. Wednesday in Carl Edmonds Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Brown of Crocker Community church will officiate and, burial will be in Chesterton cemetery.
