Obituary: Monday Feb 2, 1970 (page 3-B)
Adam A. Smart, 69, of Route 2, Union Mills, died at 5:00 am Sunday in the
Rutherford County Hospital after a long illness.
He was the son of the late W.P. and Martha Smalley Smart. He was a retired
farmer and a member of the N.C. Grange, a member of the Union Mills Community
Club, and Round Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are six sisters, Mrs. L.B. Ross, Mrs. C.Y. Nanney,Sr., Mrs. M.C.
Queen, and Miss Ruth Smart all of Union Mills, Mrs. D.W. Andrews of Spindale and
Mrs. Allie Brown of Fayetteville; tow brothers, J.B. Smart of Forest City and
James Smart of Knoxville, TN.
Funeral services were held today at 3:00 pm at Round Hill Baptist Church by Rev.
William F. Bowen Jr. and Rev C.C. Nanney. Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
Crowe's Mortuary in Rutherfordton had charge of the arrangements.

Please disregard the birth date noted on the marker.
Adam's marker and death certificate notes he was born in 1900, but the 1900
census records (and family records) indicates that he was in fact born in 1898.
We believe that the informant for Adam's death certificate, was the source of
the mistake.
