CRABB, Perry Don Born December 7, 1938 left his earthly family to join his heavenly family today, June 4, 2003. Perry had survived polio since 1959, when he was serving in the USAF in Knobnoster, MO. He was a victim of bad vaccine issued in the Midwest at that time.
He was born in Kermit, TX, the cherished son of the late Cecil and Mildred Crabb. The family moved to San Francisco in the early 1940's where he attended local schools and graduated from Mission High School in 1956. In 1957, Perry joined the Air Force, serving six years until he contracted polio.
Although he physically was unable to do many things, he never let it slow him down. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he lived and worked many years in Sedalia, MO, caring for his family.
In 1975, following the death of his father and older brother, Charles, he relocated to Santa Rosa, and for the next fifteen years, worked as a skilled specialist at Hewlett Packard. He made many friends there and became a mentor to those newly handicapped and made it his mission to help them adjust. This continued throughout his life.
He also met his current wife, Sharon, white working at HP. They married in 1993, recently celebrating their 10th anniversary. After all of these years, Perry finally found his soul mate in Sharon.
For all of this time, she has cared for his needs, not only physically, but emotionally as well. He has never been as happy as he was in her presence. There was never a time when he didn't take the time to give of himself, whether it be a meal, a bed to sleep in, or emotional support.
On his last day, he was still smiling, joking, and making sure we were OK. The greatest compliment about Perry came from his family doctor, Roger Nacouzzi. His first words when hearing of Perry's passing were, "He was a graceful man."
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, his devoted sister, Cecilia Danz and her husband, David; by his children, Perry Don Crabb and his wife, Enid of Council Grove, KS, Diana Mathews and her husband, Sam of Otterville, MO; Robin Crabb, Sedalia, MO, Tami Gray-Hackney and her husband David of Carson City, NV, Tania Stephens and her husband, Brian, Tina Monroe and Traci Burgess of Santa Rosa.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one expected in January, 2004.
Special thanks and our love to Ron Whipple, who was always available to help with his care, now living in Fitchburg, WI. Last but certainly not least, our love and thanks to Judy, Karen, and Ruth at Genteva Health Services for all of the care and devotion they provided not only to Perry, but to Sharon and the rest of the family. Perry touched many throughout his life and was an inspiration to everybody with his strength, courage and love of life.
