Born at Fergus Falls on June 5, 1913, he was the son of Oscar and Helga Stras. A World War II veteran, he served from July 23, 1942, to Jan. 11, 1946, spending time in the Phillipine Islands.
On March 27, 1947, he married Mildred Knudson at Henning. He worked as a private contractor in the carpentry business. He was a member and past commander of the Underwood American Legion Post, a member of the Underwood V.F.W., past president of the Rough Riders Snowmobile Club, and a member of Fergus Falls Eagles. He served on the school board of District 1448, and was a member of Tingvold Lutheran Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Joy.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Penny Olson of Yankton, S.D.; three sons, Richard of Fort Knox, Ken., James of Battle Lake, and Michael of Fergus Falls; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Steele of Seattle, Wash, and Mrs., William (Ruth) Young of Santa Ana, Calif.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. at Glende-Johnson-Nelson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
