Ella Cinderella Lanam was born 21 January 1873, to Solomon and Sarah (Wilcox) Lanam. She was Born in Brown County, Indiana and was the oldest of four children. When she was born her father was 24 years old and her mother was 20 years old. Ella grew up in Brown County, but spent all of her adult life in Bloomington, Monroe, Indiana.
Ella worked at a little shop on the courthouse square in Bloomington. One of her duties was to sweep the wooden sidewalk in front. Every day as she performed this chore a young man who was working on construction of the "new" courthouse would watch her. Finally he had the courage to cross the dirt street and ask the lady for a date. They were married on 12 August 1897 in Bloomington, Monroe, Indiana. Ella left her rooming house, located on the northwest corner of 11th and College, after she and Otha were married.
Otha and Ella had six children, five of which grew to adulthood. Baby Louisa died at nine months.
Ella Cinderella (Lanam) Bennett passed away on Sunday, 29 June 1952. She was 77 years old. She left behind her husband, 5 children, 7 grandchildren and four great-grand children.

Arlington
Ella C. Bennett, 77, resident of Arlington, Route 1, died Sunday in her home after an illness of two weeks.
She was a native of Brown County, the wife of Jack Bennett, a retired contractor and had lived in Arlington for 37 years.
She was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors besides the husband, are two sons, Edwin and Allen Bennett, both of Bloomington; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Bryant, Bloomington, Mrs. Henry Borsenberger, and Mrs. Joseph Hanson, both of Indianapolis, two brothers, Oliver and Glen Lanam, both of Bloomington; two sisters, Mrs. Reva Stewart, Bloomington and Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, Greenwood; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the Arlington Methodist church. A. W. Harvey and Rev. Jackson Parson will officiate and burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chester, Lowell and Edwin Campbell and Edgar Allen.
Flowerbearers will be Esther Stogall, Anna Rowlett, Irena Watson, Mary Hall, Josephine Allen and Betty Henderson.
The body remains at the Day Funeral Home until time for service.

Pallbearers were Chester, Howard and Paul Brummett, Lowell and Edwin Campbell and Edgar Allen.
Flowerbearers were Esther Stigall, Anna Rowlett, Irena Watson, Mary Hall, Josephine Allen and Betty Henderson.

● 1880 US Federal Census. In the 1880 census Ella was seven years old and living with her family in Washington, Brown County, Indiana. Her father, Solomon was 31 years old. Her mother, Sarah, had passed away two years prior. Her father had remarried to a lady named Mary Heckman, whom Ella would be close to. Mary was 24 years old and she and Solomon had a baby, Lizzie, who was one year old. Also listed are Solomon's other children from his first marriage, after Ella Cinderella were, Margaret, age 6; Oliver, age 4; and Sarah, age 2. Also listed is Solomon's mother, Sarah, who was 70 years old.
● 1900 US Federal Census. Since the previous surviving census Ella married Otha Bennett. They are living in Perry Township, Monroe County, Indiana. Ella is 27 years old and Otha is 30. Ella's brother, Oliver, is living with them. Ella and Otha have two children. Ruth, age one; and Mildred, who is five months.
● 1910 US Federal Census. Living on Walker Street in Bloomington, Indiana, 36 year old Ella and 39 year old Otha are the parents of five children, four children are living. Their children are Ruth, age 11; Mildred, age 10; George Edwin, age 8; Allen, age 5; and Louisa had passed away in 1908.
● 1920 US Federal Census. In 1920 Ella was 46 years old. She and Otha were living in Bloomington, Indiana, with their children. The oldest child living at home was Edwin, age 17 and then Allen, age 15. Their youngest daughter, Mary, was born five months after the last census. In this census, Mary, going by her nickname Sallie, was nine years old.
● 1930 US Federal Census. Ella spent her entire married life being a loving wife and mother. She created a home that her children would all remember fondly. In the 1930 census her youngest daughter was the only child living at home. Mary is just six months away from getting married. Ella is 57 years old and Otha is 60.
● 1940 US Federal Census. Still living in Bloomington, Indiana, Ella is 67 years old and her husband, Otha, is 70.
● 1950 US Federal Census. In 1950 Ella is 76 years old. She and Otha are living on Gourley Pike in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana. Otha is 80 years old. This would be the last census that Ella appears in. She passes away in two years.

❤ She was hard working. She took care of the garden, the house, and five children.
❤ She loved words. She tried to learn and use a new word every week. On Sunday she would determine if she "owned that word" before moving onto a new word. She also instilled a thirst for knowledge in her children.
❤ She had a lot of "sayings", like "Don't do anything standing up that you can do sitting down" and "Make your head save your heels."
❤ She never raised her voice. When she was frustrated with her husband, her strongest words for him were, "Now Othie." Which was said in such a way as to make Othie think about what he had said or done. It was never said in a harsh way.
❤ Ella's husband, Otha, would stand with screen door open and it would drive Ella crazy.
