He was a part of the New Haven Group that homesteaded along the Solomon River Valley, Smith County, Kansas. He lived on his Father's (L. G. Stone) homestead on Twelvemile Creek. He was a young man growing up on the plains of Kansas with his seat in the saddle. He used to ride over to his Grandfather's (Dennis B. Stone) farm to deliver food etc. as a help to his Mother [Emily (Tomlinson) Stone] who was running both homesteads.
