He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Alexander. Mr. Barefield was an avid hunter and fisherman having memberships at Pinetree and Salt & Pepper Hunting Clubs.
He was preceded in death by his father, J. Woodrow Barefield; a sister, Virginia Day; and a step-daughter, Michelle Mobley.
He is survived by his companion, Dianne Gregory; a daughter, Kim Leonard (Jerry) of Harlem, Ga.; a step-son, Jeff Mobley (Sharon) of Durham, N.C.; mother, Ruby Barefield of Alexander; three grandchildren, Kaycee Kelligan, Dylan Kelligan and Jochelle Mobley; four brothers, James Barefield (Susie) of Waynesboro, Ga., Ralph Barefield (Lena) of Alexander, Randy Barefield of Sardis, Ga., and Tommy Barefield of Alexander; four sisters, Sylvia Moore of Alexander, Mary Godbee of Waynesboro, Susan Thompson of New Braunfels, Texas, and Lynn Myers (Billy) of Alexander; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
