Roger D. Walker

Roger D. Walker departed this life at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 9 days on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 28, 1941, at Oceana, he was the son of the late Tom and Elna Cook Walker.

Mr. Walker was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam era, and was a retired coal miner from Eastern Associated Coal Corp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two half brothers, Bill Walker and James Brown.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Dianne Mitchem Walker; a daughter, Stephanie Mullins and her husband, Timothy, of Harrisburg, N.C.; a sister, Genevia Mullens and her husband, "Poza," of Oceana; two very precious grandchildren, Brooke and Austin Mullins of Harrisburg; and a host of friends.

A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery, Kopperston, with full military honors being conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guards.

Casketbearers will be LeRoy Brown, Tim Carver, Raymond Cook, Doyle Johnson, Shermon Lusk, Cecil Rollins, Ronnie Toler and Raymond Walker.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
