James R. Shetter, of Gettysburg, died May 28, 2010, after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte M. (Staub) Shetter, who died in 1996.

Mr. Shetter was born March 23, 1922, in Gettysburg, son of the late Cloyd B. "Cookie" and Mary (Weaver) Shetter.

Jim was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, and a veteran of WWII, serving with the U. S. Navy.

He retired from Gettysburg College in l984 after more than 37 years of service as head chef in the school's cafeteria and had been associated with Shetter's Catering Service in Gettysburg for a number of years and Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD, for a few years following his military service.

Surviving are four daughters, Victoria Biesecker and Patricia Paris, both of Gettysburg, Joan Omick of Catasauqua, and Teresa Myers of Orrtanna; two sons, Richard Shetter of Gettysburg and Frederick Shetter of Waynesboro; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Shetter of Gettysburg and Robert Shetter of Wrightsville; a sister, Janet Williams of Wrightsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Shetter, Dorothy Ellis, and Barbara Weaver.

Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery.
