Harold J. Brennan, 78, of Lawrence Street, died Monday at Mercy Hospital. He was a 45-year employee of Rexnord Corp. and retired as a foreman in 1983. Born in Hampden, Maine, he was a Springfield Trade High School graduate and a longtime city resident. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He leaves his wife of 57 years, the former Shirley E. Downer; a son, Harold "John" Jr. of Sandwich; two daughters, Barbara Rivers of Springfield and Kathleen LaBarre of Chicopee; a brother, James of East Longmeadow; two sisters, Geraldine Michaud of Springfield and Shirley A. Robinson of Chicopee; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter, Susan Larock, died last year. The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at Sampson's Liberty Street Funeral Home, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee. A calling hour will precede the funeral.
