Luther married his high school sweetheart, Helen Torrence, in 1942. They lived in Texas and Visalia, California, while he was in the Army Air Corps. Together they raised three children.

Luther loved to fly airplanes.

In 1960 he joined his mother-in-law, father-in-law, and wife at Torrence's Farm Implements.

Family and business were most important to Luther and Helen. They were proud that her children and grandchildren took interest in the family business.

Luther was preceded in death by his son Scott in 2005.

Luther is survived by his loving wife Helen, his daughter Pamela (Armand) Savage of Bakersfield; son Kirk Hester of Bermuda Dunes; sister-in-law Claudine (Jack) Duff of San Diego; grandchildren Kimberly, Matthew, Melissa, Nathan, Jennifer, Christopher, Chad, Ross, Kreig and Lucas, and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Hems Brothers Mortuary, in El Centro. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
