Mrs. Jennie Baughn Manville Pioneer, Dies Saturday

Mrs. Jennie Baughn, 86, Niobrara early resident, died at her home in Manville Saturday after a long illness. She came to Wyoming with her husband and three small children in 1892 making the journey in a covered wagon.

Funeral services were held at the Manville Community Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 with Rev. Leroy Train of Lance Creek officiating, and the Peet Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Howard, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emma Richardson, the three women being Mrs. Baughn's nieces. Casketbearers were Clint Dern, Marion Rassmussen, Fred Kettler, Frank Blankenship, Orval Dryer, and Sam Blaney. Interment was in the Manville Cemetery.

Mrs. Baughn was the daughter of Bradford and Rebecca Howard, born Feb. 14, 1866 at Fairbury, Ill. She was named Jennie Alene. She was married to Erastus Benjamin Baughn Dec. 20, 1886 at Tobias, Nebr. Eight children were born to them.

The family came to Wyoming in 1892 and she taught school in and around Manville for several years. Orval Dryer, one of the pallbearers, was one of her pupils.

She was a charter member of the Manville Methodist Church when it was organized 60 years ago. Her husband died May 27, 1935, and a daughter, Lola C. Lewis, died May 1, 1947.

Surviving are seven children: Mrs. Tessie Valentine, Mrs. Merle Allsup, Mrs. Juanita Lashmett, Sidney Baughn and Curtis Baughn, all of Manville; Howard Baughn of Kansas City, Mo.; Roscoe Baughn, Bookings, Ore. Also living is one brother, Harry Howard, Manville; one brother-in-law, Carl W. Baughn, Manville, who made his home with her duing his early years; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
