LORENZO DIES OF WOUND FROM GUNMAN'S SHOT

Police Without Clues in Slaying of Collector

Cipriano Aguiar Lorenzo, 44, of Buffalo avenue and Sixty-fourth street, shot by bandits who robbed him of $50 in front of his home Sunday night, died yesterday afternoon at the Centro Asturiano hospital. Lorenzo, a collector for the Centro Asturiano club, had stopped his car to unlock the driveway gate in front of his small farm when two unmasked men stepped out of the darkness and ordered him to put his hands up. Lorenzo's companion, Francisco Compretto, of 2020 Thirteenth avenue, complied, but, he told police, Lorenzo stooped as if to pick up an automobile crank. One of the two bandits fired once with a revolver, the bullet striking Loenzo in the abdomen. Chief Deputy Sheriff Grantham said yesterday he was still without clues as to the identity of the men. Compretto said he could not give a good description of the pair, due to darkness. He told police an automobile drove by just as the shooting took place but he did not know whether the thieves used it in their escape. Lorenzo is survived by his widow, Mrs. Edelmira Aguiar Lorenzo and a sister, Miss Anna Aguiar of Havana, Cuba.
