Gilbert Lafayette Masters was born November 29, 1938, in Morgan County, Ill., and grew to manhood in the place of his birth, and departed this life March 12, 1927, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 11 days.
He professed faith in Christ in early life, and lived faithful unto the end.
He was a son of William and Millie Masters, and had five brothers and five sisters, all of whom have preceded him in death.
On December 22, 1857, he was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Conlee, and she departed this life February 2, 1913.
To this union were born three sons and one daughter: Joe, who died May 25, 1923; William, of South Dakota; Albert, of Waverly; and Mrs. Robert Sims, of Virden.
He leaves to mourn his death two sons; one daughter, fifteen grandchildren and forty great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Primitive Baptist church in Waverly, Tuesday, March 15, at 2:00 p.m., in charge of Elder A. J. Conlee.
Interment was in East cemetery.
The deceased will be greatly missed by the family and a host of friends.
