George Washington Poole Jr., 89, 1214 College Heights Drive, Johnson City, passed away in his home on Friday, July 13, 2007 of natural causes surrounded by his family.

A native of Hopewell, VA he was the son of the late George Washington Poole, Sr. and Lillie Frances Woolridge.

Mr. Poole was a graduate of Curdsville High School in Buckingham County, VA.

Mr. Poole was in the Sears management program for 28 years, owned and operated his own Ford Dealership for 4 years and retired from Prudential Insurance Co. after 17 years as an agent and district manager.

He served as a medic, TEC 4, in World War II, 1941-1944.
He enjoyed gardening, camping at Higgins Lake, MI, fishing in Canada and sailing.

He had 62 wonderful years of marriage to Dorothy A. Sangster Poole before she died on November 6, 2003.
Also preceding him in death a daughter, Janet Mears; a brother, Walter Poole and a grandson, Christian Mears.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Nancy (Phillip) Lucas of Hillsboro, OH, Kathy (Jerry) Kunisch of Johnson City, TN; son, Larry Poole of Pompano Beach, FL; a sister, Gerry Chmiel of Dayton Beach, FL; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Silsby of White Lake, MI; 5 grandchildren, Barry Lucas, Deric Lucas, Megan Mears, Damon Lucas and Justin Lucas; 4 great-grandchildren, Nicole Lucas, Zachary Lucas, Evelyn Lucas ad Ethan Lucas; 9 nieces and nephews, Loretta Reece, Don, Ken, Dean and Wally Chmiel, Kitty Roberts, Jerry McGuire, Regina Loughgran and Richard Poole.

A military graveside and committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tursday, July 17, 2007 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to be at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m.

Mr. Poole's grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Arrangements are being taken care of by Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City, TN.
