Wallace "Wally" Berschneider, age 92, of Haugen, WI, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at his home.

He was born to Edward and Anna (Heinze) Berschneider on August 4, 1917 at Haugen, WI. Wally resided in Haugen where he attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and later the Haugen School thru the 10th grade. He entered the Army Air Force in 1942 and flew 48 missions in 23 countries as a Pilot of a B-17 Bomber. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he returned to Haugen and was employed by Grover Auto Supply in Spooner as well as Rice Lake until retirement in 1982. On August 26, 1952 he was married to Claire Bilodeau in Rice Lake, WI. Wally loved to camp, fish, hunt, water skiing, wood working, and ice and roller skating. He had won the Wisconsin State Ice Speed Skating Championship in 1932.

Wallace is survived by his wife, Claire Berschneider of Haugen, WI; 4 sons, Gary Berschneider of Rice Lake, WI, Barry (Sandy) Berschneider of Rice Lake, WI, Dennis (Kathy) Berschneider of Rockford, IL and Robert (Denise) Berschneider of Wausau, WI; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by parents, 2 brothers and a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 17, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Haugen, WI, Fr. David Oberts officiating, with interment in the Church Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10 - 11 AM Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
