Rice Lake Chronotype 3-20-1994

William E.N. Beckstrom, 73, of Kenosha and former Rice Lake police chief, died Sunday at his home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Campia, with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery. Visitations are from 4 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals and at the church for an hour prior to the funeral Thursday.

Mr. Beckstrom was born May 13, 1920 to Alma and William Beckstrom in Rice Lake. He attended school in Rice Lake and later farmed in the area. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to Rice Lake, where he joined the Police Department. He was married September 27, 1947 in Barron County to Nancy Lewis, who preceded him in death. In 1949 he became police chief of Rice Lake and held that position until 1960, when he moved to Kenosha. He retired in 1982 from AMC, where he had been employed as a security officer.

He is survived by two sons, William and Robert, both of Kenosha; two daughters, Catherine Gesler of Bloomer and Louise Olsen of Kenosha; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Vivian Lewis of Rice Lake and Alice Hayden of Columbus, Ohio.
