Maude Beatrice Arthur, 86, of Route 2, Forest, died Wednesday, July 11, in Virginia Baptist Hospital after a long illness. Her husband was the late George Alfus Arthur. Born in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late John Lewis Arthur and Patry Leftwich Arthur. She was a member of North Bedford Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Maurice L. Arthur of Coleman Falls and George A. (Buck) Arthur Jr. of Forest; two daughters, Mrs. Eva B. Arthur of Coleman Falls and Mrs. Leola A. Conner of Lynchburg; a brother, John Dewey Arthur of Coleman Falls; a sister, Mrs. Josephine A. Feagans of Holcombe Rock; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at North Bedford Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles L. Stinson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
