Mr. Melford Carlton Stearman, 91, of Calhoun and formerly of Ponca City, Okla., died Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2005, at Gordon Health Care Center, following an extended illness. He was born in Ponca City, Okla., on Oct. 13, 1913, son of the late Guy Henry (SHOULD BE HENRY GUY) and Maxie Richards Stearman. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy. Prior to retirement he was a production supervisor with Stearman Aircraft Products and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include four sons, Jere, David, Michael, and Gregory Stearman; two daughters, Barbara Hansen and Patricia Hansen; a brother, Guy Stearman; two sisters, Maurice Peterson and Wanda Stephens; and 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted in Lincoln, Neb., at a later date to be announced. Thomas Funeral Home of Calhoun is in charge of arrangements.
