Rev. John Akin 1756 - 1821 a native of S.C., first ME preacher to preach south of the Duck River in Maury County Tenn. Organized Pisgah Church in 1808 and preached there. Revolutionary Soldier, freed his slaves in his will in 1821. His father Wm. Akin, a native of Scotland."
Reverend John Akin may also be found to be a Methodist Circuit Rider. He would spend most of the week traveling from village to village teaching both the Bible and bringing the news to the surrounding. He died in 1821 and is buried on Pisgah. One of John’s sons was Andrew Akin.
