Beulah Naomi Cochran
January 24, 1928 - May 6, 2010

Our mom, Beulah Cochran, went to meet our Savior on May 6, 2010. She was born Beulah Naomi Steiber on January 24, 1928 in Abernathy, Texas.

She moved with her family to Bakersfield when she was 10 and eventually wound up in Taft after marrying J.C. Lackey.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, and her very special niece. She is also survived by her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Phillip Steiber and her late husbands, Raymond Funderburk, Cliff Lackey and John Cochran. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Lincoln, Kermit, Duane, Evan, Goldie, Lucille and Margaret.

She was very well known in the Taft business community, as she was the first female contractor in Kern County when she took over running Lackey Construction in 1965.

She loved country music and sang with Bill Woods and Buck Owens in their hey day. She also sang on the Cousin Herb Show in the early 50s.

Mom lived in Taft for 55 years before moving into Pacifica Senior Living last year. She was reserved and will always be remembered as a lady.

We want to thank all the great people at Pacifica Senior Living for being so caring during her stay there. We would also like to thank Optimal Hospice for their care.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m in the West Side District Cemetery in Taft.

There are no visitation hours scheduled and the arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
