He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

LCpl Buxton died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in the Nad-e Ali District of Helmand province. He was part of a team conducting reconnaissance for a bridge building project when the road collapsed and his vehicle rolled into the Nahr-e Bughra canal.

Aged 27, from Meir, Stoke-on-Trent. He enlisted into the Royal Engineers in January 2002 as a design draftsman and later retrained as an armoured engineer. He served in Northern Ireland and Tidworth, on exercises in Canada and deployed to Iraq in 2009. Described as intelligent and articulate, he was known as a determined soldier with a promising military career. "Baz" was a good humoured, fun-loving character and well-liked in his section. He excelled at sports including running, biking, skiing, kayaking and canoeing.

LCpl Buxton is survived by his wife Emma, mother Sharon Hudson, along with other family and friends. His younger brother Gareth was also a member of the armed forces serving in Afghanistan.

Funeral with full military honours was held on May 27, 2010 at St Mary's Parish Church, Uttoxeter.
