Murell Jay Bessey
Murell Jay Bessey of Forest Hill, a retired chemical engineer at Edgewood-Arsenal, died unexpecctedly Oct 20 at Fallston General Hospital. He was 78. Mr Besssey who worked more than 31 years for the federal government, was an active member of the community for many years. He was a past director of the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Co. and served as secretary/treasurer from the late 1950's to mid '60,s. He helped organize the company ambulance division. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed gardening and geneological research. He was a member of Mt. Ararat Lodge 44 AF&AM, Winter's Run Golf Club and the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, he was born in Grand Rapids. His parents were the late Clarence E. and Nora Clouse Bessey. His is survived by his wife, Gladys Phillips Bessey; two children, Thomas Bessey of Rison in Charles County, Joyce Bessey of Westminister; a brother, James Bessey, and two sisters, Dorothy Holmquist, Meredith Guelzo, both of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was the father of Steven Bessey who died in 1950. Services were held Oct 23 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. The Rev Darcy Hunt presided. Burial was in William Watters Cemetery. The pallbearers were Robt, David, Frederick and Steven Phillips, John Schriver, Dalte strawbridge, Roscoe Conklin and Dongald Regel. Contributions may be made to the Ebenezer methodist Church or the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Co. Arrangements were by the Kurtz Funeral Home in Jarrettsville.
