Gertrude Scott Kerr Scott (her middle name really WAS Scott), was born in Pennsylvania. The Scotts in Pa. were close friends of the Kerr family and it has been found that the Scotts and Kerrs have intermarried many times in the U.S., as well as in Ireland and Scotland. Gertrude was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Henry)Kerr. Gertrude's aunt's name was Gertrude Kerr as well--confusing, but the elder Gertrude was married to Alexander Scott.
Gertrude married William John Scott, (who was always called 'John') the second child of Joseph Orr and Mary (Clark) Scott on 28 May 1845 in New Cumberland, O., the Rev. Alexander Sweeney officiating. The couple had six children: Laura Clementine, Mary Jane, Joseph Newton, Alice Amanda, Sarah Elizabeth, and Thomas Boyd.
William John Scott died in 1876, and Gertrude died of "consumption" in 1880.
