Mrs. Mary C. Chaffin, wife of Mr. Thomas P. Chaffin, was born January 11th, 1828, and died January 15th, 1907. She was paralized on January 11th, on her 79th birthday and was rendered unconscious and remained so until her death.

She was married to Mr. T. P. Chaffin March 14th, 1852; was the mother of eleven children, thirty four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Eight children, twenty eight grandchildren and one great grandchild are still living.

Mrs. Chaffin had been confined to her room an invalid for about four years before her death. She professed religion and joined the church when a girl and remained a faithful, consistent member of the Missionary Baptist church until death.

She was buried in the family cemetery near the old homestead. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. E. Pounds. Many relatives and sympathizing friends were present. Many beauiful flowers were placed on the casket by loving hands. The services were appropriate and impressive.

Mrs. Chaffin was a model christian woman, kind hearted and of a sympathetic nature; a fond, loving mother and affectionate wife and a most excellent neighbor. Truly she was a good woman and had no enemies. She was industrious economical and had a sweet charitable disposition.

She has crossed over the River and rests under the shade of the tree of ever lasting life." She fell asleep in the arms of Jesus only to awake in the Beulah Land of eternal bliss and happiness. She left many relatives and friends to mourn her loss, but why should they mourn? Why grieve? Their loss is her eternal gain. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
