Donald F. Chesebro, 75, of LaCrosse died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse. He was born September 15, 1927, in LaCrosse to Don W. and Ruth (Dikeman) Chesebro. He married Virginia Tanke on August 23, 1947, in LaCrosse. Don was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving from 1945 to 1952. He had worked at the Auto-Lite for many years until its closing and then worked for the city of LaCrosse Water Department until his retirement in 1989. Don was a member of the Roy Vingers American Legion Post 52, the Post 52 firing squad and the 40 et 8 LaCrosse County Voiture 830. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Danny Chesebro of LaCrosse; a daughter, Lois (Randy) Krause of Huntington, IN; five grandchildren, Derek Chesebro of LaCrosse, Drew Chesebro, serving with the U.S. Navy, Devon Chesebro of LaCrosse and Tim and Brian Krause of Indiana; three great grandchildren, Cameron Krause, Alana Mae Chesebro and Gabriel Krause; two sisters, Ruth (Matthew) Potter of Edgerton, WI, and Mary (Jim) Winder of LaCrosse; a sister-in-law, Roberta Chesebro of Janesville, WI; a daughter-in-law, Debra Chesebro; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delmer Chesebro; and a grandson, Anthony Krause. Funeral serviceswill be held Friday, May 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of LaCrosse. The Rev. Donald Meuret will officiate. Burial with military honors by the Roy Vingters American Legion Post 52 will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., and again Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
