James Dowell Abbott, 82, Independence, MO, passed away May 12, 2004, at the Medical Center of Independence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Chapel, I-435 and Holmes Rd.; burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. James was born on December 29, 1921, in Kansas City, KS, to Eugene and Marie Abbott. He was a WWII Marine vet. He retired in 1984, as President of DoAll South Atlantic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonneta Abbott and his daughter, Sandra Hines. His survivors include his son, Robert J. Abbott and wife, Sandy, New Galilee, PA, and his daughters, JoLynn Day and husband, Jim, Kansas City, MO, Cheryl Searcy, Independence, MO, and Debbie Abbott, Virginia Beach, VA; sisterin-law, Pat Pratt; and son-in-law, Gary Hines. Mr. Abbott had nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation. (Arr. Mt. Mr. Abbott was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., to Eugene and Marie Abbott. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He retired in 1984 as president of DoAll South Atlantic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonneta Abbott, and a daughter, Sandra Hines.
His survivors include a son, Robert J. Abbott and wife, Sandy, New Galilee, Pa.; three daughters, JoLynn Day and husband, Jim, Kansas City, Cheryl Searcy, Independence, and Debbie Abbott, Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister-in-law, Pat Pratt; a son-in-law, Gary Hines; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
